At the Center For Youth Mental Health’s annual benefit, pop star Demi Lovato shared her personal struggles with mental health. Speaking candidly, Lovato reflected on her experiences, saying “I have been to inpatient treatment five times, and it has something that every single time I walked back into a treatment center, I felt defeated.” However, Lovato also emphasized the importance of seeking help and putting in the work to overcome mental health struggles.

“I think the glimmer of hope was when I started putting in the work and I started to, whether it was work, a program, or talk to my treatment team and build relationships there,” she said. Lovato’s comments come as she continues to advocate for mental health awareness and support. The “Skyscraper” singer has been open about her own battles with depression, anxiety, and addiction… and has used her platform to encourage others to speak openly about their struggles.

Despite the challenges she has faced, Lovato expressed optimism about her mental health journey, saying that things “definitely felt different” after her fifth in-patient treatment.
